Department of Computer Science & Engineering

About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was formed in the year 2002. It is AICTE approved and Affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The Department offers a four year B.E. Computer Science and Engineering Programme with a sanctioned intake of 120 from 2014-2015 onwards and a sanctioned intake of 180 from 2017-2018 onwards. The sanctioned intake was 60 from 2002 to 2014. The Department of CSE also offers a two-year Post graduation Programme namely M.E. Computer Science and Engineering, started in the academic year 2013-2014. The sanctioned intake of the PG programme is 9. The Department follows the curriculum of Anna University which is updated regularly to keep up with the growing demands and the changing trends of the software industry and research laboratories. Besides the faculty members make sure that they also include ‘additional topics to be covered’ at the time of course plan preparation. This enables our students to remain updated and thereby provoke competency and interaction levels during their teaching-learning period at the institution.

The Department has state-of-the-art infrastructure and computing equipment supported by high speed Internet and wireless networks. The Department comprises of three smart classrooms and two laboratories exclusively for conducting the UG programme. Smart Classroom includes BenQ projector, projector screen, two speakers, an amplifier, two microphones, a CC camera and a computer system. The CSE Lab comprises of seventy two i3 WIPRO systems and a white board for effective teaching and learning. The NET lab comprises of sixty nine i3 WIPRO systems and a white board for effective teaching and learning. The Net lab supports Ubuntu 14.0 OS. There are two classrooms and a laboratory exclusively for PG programme.

The Department is headed by Professor Dr. P.S.Prakash. The Department comprises of thirty seven knowledge rich and amicable members of faculty. The members of faculty aim at delivering top class education blending their rich research experience with classroom teaching. Among thirty seven members, ten members have completed their Ph.D degrees and ten members are pursuing research in areas like Image Processing, Biometrics, Ad hoc Networks and Soft computing. All faculties are the active members of various professional societies like ISTE, CSI, ACM and the like. This enables them to bridge their knowledge with the students and be information rich. Computer systems with Internet connectivity is provided for each staff cabin which again helps in equipping them for preparing their lectures. The members of faculty also educate the interested students for various certification exams like CISCO, IIT initiated Spoken tutorials on various courses, NPTEL online courses, Infosys Campus Connect programmes, GATE coaching etc. The members of faculty are very keen to attend Faculty Development Programmes conducted by IIT and other institutions for their upliftment.
